Jane Austen was born on December 16, 1775 at Steventon near Basingstoke, the seventh child of the rector of the parish. She lived with her family at Steventon until they moved to Bath when her father retired in 1801. After his death in 1805, she moved around with her mother; in 1809, they settled in Chawton, near Alton, Hampshire. Here she remained, except for a few visits to London, until in May 1817 she moved to Winchester to be near her doctor. There she died on July 18, 1817.
As a girl Jane Austen wrote stories, including burlesques of popular romances. Her works were only published after much revision, four novels being published in her lifetime. These are Sense and Sensibility (1811), Pride and Prejudice (1813), Mansfield Park (1814) and Emma (1816). Two other novels, Northanger Abbey and Persuasion, were published posthumously in 1818 with a biographical notice by her brother, Henry Austen, the first formal announcement of her authorship. Persuasion was written in a race against failing health in 1815-16. She also left two earlier compositions, a short epistolary novel, Lady Susan, and an unfinished novel, The Watsons. At the time of her death, she was working on a new novel, Sanditon, a fragmentary draft of which survives.

　　麗萃的聰明在於自我意識強烈，她明確的知道自己喜歡什麼，討厭什麼，該做什麼，不該做什麼。所以，她在適閤的場閤優雅，在不適閤的場閤機智。我當年看瞭3遍BBC的電視劇，最喜歡的鏡頭有兩個：一個是她步行瞭很遠去賓格來先生的莊園看望生病的姐姐，在快到的地方碰到瞭一隻大狗，她愉快和與它玩耍。那時達西先生正好站在窗邊看到這一幕，眼光便久久的不能離開。她的率性和自我討好得到瞭達西先生的認可，很明顯，他仰慕那個自得其樂的她。而另一個鏡頭是達西小姐彈鋼琴的時候，賓格來小姐為瞭諷刺麗萃提到瞭威廉姆，達西小姐心理一緊，琴聲戛然而止，連達西先生都忍不住臉色大變。這個時候麗萃迅速的走瞭過瞭微笑的道歉，她說是我忘瞭給你翻琴譜害你不能彈下去，語氣自然，態度得體，一方麵安穩的達西小姐的慌張，另一方麵解決瞭達西先生的憂慮。那一瞬間達西的錶情變化很值得迴味，他看著麗萃的眼神，充滿瞭激賞，然後馬上的，是無與倫比的喜愛。 大方得體，機智有益，雪中送炭的女人會讓男人感激，但錦上添花的女人纔是男人最大的夢想。

　　而還有另外一個群體如莉迪亞，她漂亮並且無知，嫁不嫁得好隻與運氣有關，但這一點並不由我們來評判，因為對於頭腦裏一根杠杆兩個齒輪的個體，她對於幸福和不幸福並沒有自我意識的認知，隻要能滿足眼下的生活，就沒有什麼失落感。
