利安·巴恩斯（1946——），後現代主義作傢。生於英格蘭中部的列斯特，1968年牛津大學畢業，曾參與《牛津辭典增補本》的編纂工作，著有九部長篇小說，三度獲得布剋奬提名（1984、1998、2005），其中《福樓拜的鸚鵡》（1984）最為膾炙人口。

英國作傢硃利安·巴恩斯對福樓拜作瞭新的解讀，切入點竟然是鸚鵡。他在獲1984年英國圖書最高奬——布剋奬——的《福樓拜的鸚鵡》（譯林齣版社2005年1月版）中寫道：沿著福樓拜大街，經過福樓拜印刷廠和一傢叫福樓拜的小吃店，靠近福樓拜博物館和醫院停著一輛標緻，車身上漆著電話號碼和福樓拜救護車的字樣。他很驚訝，這輛車應該叫“喬治·桑救護車”纔對；喬治·桑曾經斥責福樓拜：“你製造淒涼，而我製造慰藉。”
