作者簡介

Frances Hodgson Burnett wrote for children and adults, publishing both plays and novels. She was born in Manchester, England, on November 24, 1849. Her father, who owned a furniture store, died when she was only four years old. Her mother struggled to keep the family business running while trying to raise five children. Finally, because of the failing Manchester economy, the family sold the store and immigrated to the United States. In 1865 they settled just outside of Knoxville, Tennessee. Hoping to offset her family's continuing financial troubles, Burnett began to submit her stories to women's magazines. She was immediately successful. In the late 1860s her stories were published in nearly every popular American magazine. Burnett helped to support her family with income from the sale of her stories, even saving enough to finance a trip back to England, where she stayed for over a year. In 1879, Burnett published her first stories for children; two of her most popular are A Little Princess and The Secret Garden. In contrast to an extremely successful career, Burnett's personal life held many challenges. Her son Lionel was diagnosed with tuberculosis at age 15, from which he never recovered. His death inspired several stories about dead or dying children. Burnett lived her later years on Long Island, New York. She died in 1924.

Author and illustrator Tasha Tudor was born in Boston, Massachusetts on August 28, 1915. Her first book, Pumpkin Moonshine, was published in 1938. Since then she has written or illustrated almost 100 books including her most recent title Corgiville Christmas, which was published in 2003. She won numerous awards throughout her lifetime including the Catholic Library Association's Regina Medal, the Walter Cerf Award for Lifetime Achievements in the Arts from the Vermont Arts Council, and Caldecott Honors for Mother Goose in 1945 and 1 Is One in 1957. She also created Christmas cards for the Irene Dash Greeting Card Company. She died on June 18, 2008.

First published in 1911, Burnett's tale of burgeoning self-awareness, newfound friendship, and the healing effects of nature is presented in an elegant, oversize volume and handsomely illustrated with Moore's detailed ink and watercolor paintings. Cleanly laid-out text pages are balanced by artwork ranging from delicate spot images to full-page renderings. The outdoor scenes are beautifully depicted, presenting realistic images of animals and flowers, with the hues gradually warming in sync with the story's progression from winter's browns and beiges to the lush colors of spring. The young protagonists—lonely Mary Lennox; her sickly and spoiled cousin, Colin; and likable local lad Dickon—bound to life in the evocative paintings, which reflect the wonders of transformations in both nature and in a child's heart. All in all, a lovely interpretation.

　　　　事實上，作為鑰匙的瑪麗自身也經曆瞭一場個性的演變。或者說，隱藏在她內心深處感受美好的細胞經過挖掘，終於在某一天結束休眠，進入正常工作狀態。麵黃肌瘦的女孩，物質生活富裕，但缺少母愛和關懷，她專橫、乖戾、自私、冷漠，父母死於霍亂後，被隻身送往性情同樣古怪的駝背姨父身邊。不想遼闊的沼澤地上的新鮮空氣給她滋潤，苦瓜臉日漸豐滿紅潤，呈現齣發自內心的愉悅。同時，她的乾涸的精神世界逐漸豐富，錶現在她對外界的美的認同，做一件事情的專注。真是奇跡呀。跟幾個月前相比，小女孩幾乎煥然一新。而促使瑪麗性情大改的原因隻有一個，她找到瞭開啓快樂的鑰匙。
