吴藕汀《孤灯夜话》里有戚继光一则，曰戚继光，通过买美姬送张居正的手段从而飞黄腾达，生活奢华，人品低下，西湖边不应该建他的塔。余觉甚为迂腐可笑，戚乃王阳明心学传人，知行合一，若他不知道审时度势，岂有后来的一番作为。
