作者簡介

Maurice Sendak received the 1964 Caldecott Medal for Where the Wild Things Are. In 1970 he received the international Hans Christian Andersen Medal for illustration, and he remains the only American ever awarded this honor. In 1983 Sendak received the Laura Ingalls Wilder Award from the American Library Association, given in recognition of his entire body of work. He also received a 1996 National Medal of Arts in recognition of his contribution to the arts in America.

莫裏斯·桑達剋（Maurice Sendak，1928年6月10日～2012年5月8日），生於美國紐約市布魯剋林區，美國著名作傢以及兒童插圖畫傢。他作品裏稀奇的故事和富有想象力的插圖很容易使孩子感到恐懼或産生歡樂。桑達剋最初是靠為彆的作傢作品創作插圖齣名的，例如他為路德·剋勞斯的《一個要挖的洞》（1952年）創作的插圖。《肯尼的窗戶》（1956年）是桑達剋第一部既自己寫作又自己設計插圖的小說。《野獸國》（1963年）講瞭一個名叫馬剋斯的男孩統治奇幻的野獸王國的故事，它幫助桑達剋贏得瞭1964年的凱迪剋奬章。這部作品與後麵的《夜晚的廚房》（1970年）和《在那遙遠的地方》（1981年）構成瞭三部麯。它們的題材都是關於兒童的探險故事。情節都是主人公到一些危險而虛構的地方探險，並逐漸學習並剋服自己的恐懼心理。桑達剋平時喜歡仔細觀察嬉戲的兒童，並將這些觀察寫到自己的很多書裏。作品《羅茜門上的標誌》（1960年）就是這樣寫成的。桑達剋於1928年6月10日齣生於紐約市的布魯剋林區。1949-51年他在紐約藝術學生聯盟學習。他有幾本故事書描繪瞭自己的童年記憶，背景就是自己的齣生地。桑達剋設計製作插圖的兒童書籍大約有80本，其中大約20本是自己寫的作品。
