The Silmarillion is an account of the Elder Days, of the First Age of Tolkien's world. It is the ancient drama to which the characters in The Lord of the Rings look back, and in whose events some of them such as Elrond and Galadriel took part. The tales of The Silmarillion are set in an age when Morgoth, the first Dark Lord, dwelt in Middle-Earth, and the High Elves made war upon him for the recovery of the Silmarils, the jewels containing the pure light of Valinor. Included in the book are several shorter works. The Ainulindale is a myth of the Creation and in the Valaquenta the nature and powers of each of the gods is described. The Akallabeth recounts the downfall of the great island kingdom of Numenor at the end of the Second Age and Of the Rings of Power tells of the great events at the end of the Third Age, as narrated in The Lord of the Rings.For the first time, we are publishing a deluxe edition of this pivotal work, featuring the revised, corrected text and including, by way of an introduction, a fascinating letter written by Tolkien in 1951 in which he gives a full explanation of how he conceived the early Ages of Middle-earth. 是30th版，鎖綫精裝，紙張很厚很白，所以書也比較重，很精緻，質量很好，有一張地圖。一入中土深似海，托老的作品本來有套平裝，但總想弄一套精裝的收藏，對這本書和其所屬的套裝關注猶豫瞭很久，主要是價格高，要集齊整套經濟上會比較吃力，但最終還是決定入手，因為買的不僅僅是書，還是情懷

收藏用的挺好的吧就是原版書不全

經過幾代翻譯工作者近百年的艱辛勞作和不懈努力，華語世界現在已經有瞭五套莎士比亞全集的譯本，此前的四套版本均是散文體翻譯，其中三套又都是以著名翻譯傢硃生豪的譯本為底本和主體的（梁實鞦先生獨立翻譯的譯本也是散文體）。
