William Shakespeare is widely regarded as the greatest playwright the world has seen. He produced an astonishing amount of work; 37 plays, 154 sonnets, and 5 poems. He died on 23rd April 1616, aged 52, and was buried in the Holy Trinity Church, Stratford.

梁实秋平生主要有三大成就:一是文学创作与文学评论,他出版的散文、小品、杂文集多达20多种;二是编纂英汉词典,他编写了30多种英汉字典、词典及英文教科书;三是翻译《莎士比亚全集》,这也是耗时最长、用精力最大的一项工程。可以说梁实秋不愧为一代文学大师、翻译大师。然而,新中国成立后,梁实秋的作品并没有在内地继续出版,这是有历史原因的。

梁实秋是中国现代著名作家、文学批评家、文学翻译家。他1903年1月生于北京,1915年考入清华留美预备校,1923年8月赴美留学,专攻英语和英美文学。1926年夏回国于南京东南大学任教,先后任暨南大学、青岛大学、北京大学、北京师范大学等校外文系教授、系主任。1948年移居香港,1949年到台湾,先后任台湾省立师范大学、台湾师范大学、台湾大学教授、台湾编译馆馆长。1987年11月3日因心脏病病逝于台北。
