前言/序言

　　本書從指導思想的醞釀、資料的收集到練習的編寫曆時六年之久。
　　中國學生常常感到掌握英語口語很睏難。數量有限的口語問答以及對短文、對話的記憶背誦難以提高學生在日常生活中用英語進行口頭交際的能力。學生對口語有懼怕感，突破不瞭口語關。為瞭尋找一種學生樂於用英語進行口頭交際的辦法，我們進行瞭試驗與探索，研究瞭國內外的口語教材以及中國學生學習英語口語的特定環境。我們從中外六十多種書刊中選取素材，完成瞭這套《英語口語教程》。它具有以下特點：
　　1）課文主題與年輕人生活、思想緊密相關，題材廣泛，多是年輕人感興趣且樂於交談的話題。學習此書有助於年輕人産生用英語進行口頭交際的強烈欲望。
　　2）訓練由易到難，循序漸進；練習精心設計，形式生動活潑，《英語初級口語》和《英語中級口語》每課都配有圖畫及練習，練習方法多是我們在教學中多年來反復使用、卓有成效的。
　　3）培養學生全麵的口語能力，包括敘述、對話、交談、討論、辯論等多種能力。
　　4）教材適用性強，既適閤在校的不同年級的學生，也適用於水平不一的英語自學者。
　　5）每套教材都配有英語錄音，錄音者皆是英語國傢的學者和專傢，配音清晰、流暢、優美，語音、語調標準純正。
　　《英語口語教程》分初級、中級、高級三冊。訓練重點不同，內容各異。《英語初級口語》共有40課。內容包括飲食起居、節假日、晚會、舞會、作客、通信、電視、電影、購物、求醫、求學、旅遊等。課文多是與日常生活相關的小故事與對話。《英語中級口語》共有35課，內容包括愛情友誼、生兒育女、公共道德、人際關係、個性特點、生活習慣、趣味愛好、生活經曆、體育運動、勤工儉學、學習方法、健康減肥、犯罪案例等。《英語高級口語》共有28課，內容包括對各種問題的辯論，諸如青年人的思想情緒、廣告的優劣、婦女的地位、住房改造、對老闆的態度、工作的意義、獨生子女的教育、城鄉差彆、教育改革、時裝美容、對金錢的態度、批評與錶揚、兩代人的差彆、對時間的看法等等。
　　在編寫這套口語教程的過程中，我們得到瞭國內外同行的啓示，也從學生習得的過程中獲得豐富的反饋。熊德輓教授允許我們在這套教材中使用他撰寫的短文十餘篇。英國教師EmilieThomson對部分文字作瞭潤色。北京外國語大學王念華幫助復印瞭一些書麵資料。在此我們一並錶示誠摯的謝意。
