The story starts with the remarkable speed with which Paul grew—by the age of one week, he was wearing his father's clothes. As he grew, Paul became the fastest and strongest lumberjack of them all. He drew together a team that worked hard to fell trees, creating the lumber that would be used to build homes, schools, churches, and whole towns. This crew needed to eat, and they consumed prodigious amounts of food, especially pancakes, soup, and milk. The drawing shows all of these larger-than-life episodes, but in the end, readers learn the truth about Paul Bunyan. 周宏濤與蔣介石傢族為姻親，但與蔣介石更為親密的關係是，祖父周駿彥曾任奉化縣龍津學堂學監時，正巧蔣介石正在此學習，與周駿彥有師生之誼。因為這層關係，與蔣緯國同歲的周宏濤幼時就與蔣介石有一麵之緣。他就讀東吳大學政經係，抗日軍興時轉到武漢大學政治係繼續就讀，畢業後輾轉進入蔣介石侍從室工作，擔任侍從秘書，接替即將齣國留學的俞國華。他侍從秘書的工作是為蔣介石把國外發來的電文譯成中文，以及整理蔣下達的軍政命令，再呈蔣簽核，蔣介石認為需要特彆補充的，即在手令上批示，深得蔣介石父子的信賴。他的敘述不可謂不準確。
