Marjorie Weinman Sharmat (born November 12, 1928 in Portland, Maine) is an American children's writer. Sharmat has authored more than 130 books for children and teens. Her books have been translated into several languages and have won awards, such as Book of the Year by the Library of Congress or have become selections by the Literary Guild. Very briefly in the 1980s, Sharmat also wrote Sorority Sisters, a romantic book series, which had a sense of humor. Among Sharmat's most popular books are those featuring child detective Nate the Great. The story, Nate the Great Goes Undercover, was turned into a made-for-TV movie and won the Los Angeles International Children's Film Festival Award.

At first, suspicions fall on teammate Annie's dog Fang, known to be capable of eating nearly anything, and although he is in possession of another of the octopus's arms, he is proven innocent. By following clues and using reasoning, Nate the Great solves the mystery. As usual, Sharmat does not condescend to her audience, and readers are provided with enough information to find the answer themselves. 买中文的便宜很多，而且中文版是正反两面看的，不是中英文放在一起的那种，反过来看就是原版书。前8本我买的中文的，后面的没有引进版，我就买了英文的。原版的纸质好一些，不过价钱在20元上下，性价比还是中文的高。
