阿嘉莎?剋莉絲蒂(Agatha Christie，1890-1976)生於英格蘭的Devonshire。剋莉絲蒂早年喪父，小時候並未受過正規教育，多靠母親的指導與自修來充實自己。24歲(1914)時，本名阿嘉莎．瑪麗．剋那麗莎．米勒的剋莉絲蒂嫁給瞭英國皇傢空軍軍官阿奇坡．剋莉絲蒂(ArchibaldChristie)後改姓夫姓。一次大戰期間她曾加入醫療機構擔任護理工作，有機會接觸並認識各種毒藥的藥性，因而墊定瞭日後小說中對於藥性運用的基礎。在這段時間中，她時常與姊姊瑪姬一同閱讀偵探小說，並且一起討論討論其中的布局與情節，因而勾起瞭寫作的興趣，並且寫下瞭其一本偵探小說The Mysterious Affair at Styles。不過當時曾遭多傢齣版商退稿(與科南道爾當年的境遇一樣)，最後終於在1920問世。
