Oxford University Press (OUP) is the largest university press in the world. It is a department of the University of Oxford and is governed by a group of 15 academics appointed by the Vice-Chancellor known as the Delegates of the Press. They are headed by the Secretary to the Delegates, who serves as OUP's chief executive and as its major representative on other university bodies. 雕版印刷術約在初、盛唐時代齣現，由於它是手工業時代生産圖書的好方法，因此很快被推廣利用，成為五代、兩宋以後生産圖書的主力。為瞭使印刷技術更便捷與美觀，宋仁宗慶曆年間（公元一○四一～一○四八）又有人發明活字排版印刷。而元朝末年，更進步到彩色套印的印刷領域。從此之後，印刷技術不但成熟周全，印刷成品更是鮮麗動人。

對口袋書沒有完全準確的界定，大抵是指開本小於小32開，印張大緻不超過10個印張的書。口袋書的興起，最早可以追溯到1935年7月在倫敦齣版的“企鵝叢書”，這套叢書3年間銷售2500多萬冊，獲得巨大成功。口袋書從此流行於世並引發瞭一場“紙皮書革命”，對歐美國傢的齣版業産生瞭深遠的影響，甚至與美國發明柯達剋羅姆彩色膠片一起列入20世紀的人類發明、人類冒險和不尋常的事件當中。
