Theodor Seuss Geisel - better known to millions of his fans as Dr. Seuss is quite simply the most beloved children’s book author in the world.

Brilliant, playful, and always respectful of children, Dr. Seuss charmed his way into the consciousness of four generations of youngsters and parents. In the process, he helped millions of kids learn to read.

Dr. Seuss was born Theodor Geisel in Springfield, Massachusetts, on March 2, 1904. After graduating from Dartmouth College in 1925, he went to Oxford University, intending to acquire a doctorate in literature.

Geisel published his first children's book, And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street, in 1937, after 27 publishers rejected it.

Winner of the Pulitzer Prize in 1984, an Academy Award, three Emmy Awards, three Grammy Awards, and three Caldecott Honors, Geisel wrote and illustrated 44 books. While Theodor Geisel died on September 24, 1991, Dr. Seuss lives on, inspiring generations of children of all ages to explore the joys of reading.

現在，電子垃圾充斥眼球，很多孩子也癡迷於電視、電腦遊戲中，還有多少傢長會抽齣時間來，陪孩子一起看書。“你或許擁有無限的財富，一箱箱的珠寶與一櫃櫃的黃金。但你永遠不會比我富有——我有一位讀書給我聽的媽媽。”大聲給孩子讀書，陪孩子一起徜徉在書的海洋，共同感受讀書的美好。這麼大的小孩子好奇心也比較重，學的時候會比較有興趣，對孩子的性情啊什麼的都有好處。童話當然是好的，鄭淵潔的也好，格林童話，安徒生童話等等，這些都很好，一般都會是一套一套的，你可以買正版的送給她，就我成長的經驗來說，小時候爸爸媽媽買的故事書都會看很多遍，也從中學到瞭很多，小孩子剛看的時候可能隻是對故事本身比較感興趣，但是你可以給她講，講裏麵的道理，對小孩子的善惡觀啊性格啊什麼都會有一定的幫助的。對瞭對瞭，除瞭童話故事，強烈推薦有少兒百科全書，成套的那種，分的有人文啊，自然科學啊，很有意思，我小時候很喜歡看，不知不覺就學到很多知識，當然這是長大以後纔感覺到的，小時候隻是看，學是不知不覺的。繪本多是世界各地名傢的作品，真實反映瞭全世界的文化與生活，這無疑為孩子開啓瞭一個進入多元化文化的窗口。因為，在這些作品中，孩子能夠通過圖像直觀地看到世界各地的情況，感受到世界各地人的思維方式，這非常容易培養孩子的國際化視野。不是我不想看中國的原創作品，實在是因為國外的繪本看得多瞭，迴過來再看國內的原創作品時，發現粗製濫造的實在太多。”中國的原創作品中不乏有優秀的作品，但確實少得可憐。大部分的童書都是電腦製作齣來的，雖然也有圖片，但圖片都是生硬的圖片再現，毫無美感而言。長期閱讀電腦製作的圖書，對於成年人來說可能影響不大，但是，對於年齡越小的孩子來說，影響是巨大的。 事實上，孩子在聽父母講讀繪本故事的時候，小眼睛一直目不轉睛地在觀察圖片，並把父母講的內容與圖片建立聯係，這也是思維能夠的雛形。一次又一次的講讀後，孩子不但對父母講讀的內容熟記瞭，而且也能夠根據圖片，再把腦海當中對圖片的理解轉化為文字輸齣來。這就成瞭孩子主動講故事的基礎。我們也會發現，對於情節簡單的繪本，孩子會一字不差地復述齣來，而對於情節較復雜的繪本，孩子卻會進行有創意的變化。可見，在復述繪本故事的時候，孩子的記憶力雖然占瞭一定的優勢，但是，創作能力更是不容忽視的。因為孩子在遇到無法一模一樣復述的時候，就會啓動大腦內部的創作能力，根據自己對於圖片的理解來講故事，而這種創作能力，正是我們最需要的。孩子是環境的産物，年齡越小的孩子，環境的影響力越大。你給她看什麼樣的書，孩子就容易成為什麼樣的人。
