【距离几何学:空间测距、定位网络,互联、物联时空的新基准】

以前在谷歌[X]实验室工作时,经常会向面试的同学提一个类似脑筋急转弯的问题:能否在二维平面上找到4个不重合的点,使得它们两两之间距离相等?如果是放置在三维空间中的四个点呢?又或者在地球表面上的四个点呢(假设地球表面是一个完美的圆球面)?
读到这里,可能会有人心存疑惑,这和本文主题有关系吗?不要小看这个问题,其中蕴藏着关于距离几何学的大学问哦。所谓距离几何学,就是通过网络节点和节点之间的距离测量来推知网络的整体几何性质,比如每个节点的物理位置、网络直径和节点分布等。这些节点可以是路由器,也可以是手机,又或者是我们佩戴的手环。设想未来某天,当你走进博物馆参观,展厅本身拥有一个实时搭建的局域人机交互网络,可以定位网络中每个节点,也就是观众携带的手机、手环、眼镜,甚至衣服、鞋子等物品,当参观者位置移动到某一展品附近时,手机或者展馆屏幕上自动弹出该展品的介绍,观众与展品甚至可以像《哈利·波特》里描述的那样与画中人互动。这样的高能博物馆,是不是超级酷?
距离几何学是数学中的一个有趣的分支,不仅自身充满了浓郁的理论趣味,还有着广泛的实际应用价值,在物联网、机器学习、计算机视觉与可视化研究,以及传感网络的位置服务等应用中都发挥了非常重要的作用。可以说是这些领域背后黑科技的一部分,近几年来越发引起科学界的关注与重视。本文主要围绕距离测量,基于距离信息的几何学、室内定位,以及其他各类神奇的应用来展开。希望本文的介绍能为对这一领域感兴趣的读者带来启发。
从Internet of Things 到Location of Things
Internet of Things(简称IoT),就是我们通常说的物联网,这个概念相信大家都不陌生。万物有灵,互联互通,物联网的世界是丰富多彩的,每个日常生活物品都可以在物联网的作用下实时地感知周围的环境,形成网络集群效应。举个例子,我们可以在家部署多个测量距离的传感器设备,使得这些设备之间可以互相定位,形成一个局域网络,用于跟踪和定位物体,实时地根据进入这个环境的客人的位置信息有选择地推送相关的信息或者提供其他服务内容。在不久的未来,甚至可以让家里的桌椅、茶杯、衣服、毛巾都具备传感与通信功能,它们可以感知彼此的存在,协同工作,为主人生活起居带来更多舒适与便捷。结束了一天的工作,拎包走出办公室前,你或许可以给大管家冰箱打个电话,大管家会转告电饭煲和烤箱,提前煲上米饭、烤上猪排,这样到家时就可以吃上热腾腾的猪排饭啦,这样的日子,岂不妙哉。
想吃猪排饭,要先学会如何构建传感网络的自组织图用来定位彼此。读者可能会问,这又有何难度呢?用GPS(全球定位系统)不就可以了嘛!问题是,商用的卫星GPS信号通常在充满遮挡物的城市角落或者大楼内部工作不佳。同时GPS的定位精度也不够准备,在没有遮挡物干扰的空旷户外,除非是使用军用GPS,一般的民用GPS定位精度通常只在10米左右,用作车辆导航是够了,但想要精确定位一个手掌大小的物体,这样的精度远远不够用。想要实现毫米级别的几何信息定位,我们需要寻找新的解决办法。
目前室内定位的研究重心就在于如何建立一套完整的软硬件体系可以保证实时并且精确地定位特定物体。2015年笔者曾在西雅图参加并且观摩了IPSN会议上举行的室内定位大赛,目前最优的定位方案大约可以达到20厘米左右的定位精度。[1]高精度的实时定位可以让用户获得许多新的神奇体验,比如增强现实!你举起手机对着桌面看,摄像头看到了桌面上的物体如遥控器和钥匙链,同时系统准确定位了桌面上的这些物体位置,于是原先用箭头显示的物体坐标就会变为该物体的虚拟现实形象显示在屏幕上,实现同一物体的真实和虚拟形象叠加。不仅如此,你可以靠近或远离它们,变换朝向,真实世界和虚拟世界配合得天衣无缝。
Location of Things(简称LoT),顾名思义,就是在IoT的基础上赋予每一个物体具体的物理位置标志。LoT这个名词挺时髦的。笔者最早是在以色列的一家叫作getpixie的公司的宣传标语上看到这个词。该公司生产一种非常小巧的类似钥匙链的小标牌。标牌和标牌之间可以精准地测量相互间的距离。它的一个最神奇的应用就是可以通过自组织网络寻找藏匿在家中的物品。LoT还有很多有趣的应用,比如说室内定位:当用户走进一家商场,商家会根据其位置自动选择广告推送的内容;当该用户走近货架浏览商品时,商品的信息实时地在手机端显示出来,并可以根据用户位置做出相应调整;如果举起相机,商店中各个商品的位置和介绍就会叠加在一起,形成360度全景纵深图(如图3),起到增强现实效果的作用;此外,当不小心丢失了某个重要物品时,可以通过手机轻松定位该物体,并将其位置传送到屏幕上,这简直是“马大哈”和“小迷糊”们的福音,从此以后再也不用担心丢东西啦。
LoT的实现,依托的是一套自组织网络以及定位网络系统,这个系统假设所有的定位都是通过设备与设备间的距离测量以及动态构建自组织网络来进行的。设备与人之间的距离测量也可以通过相机和计算机视觉技术、超声波探测,或者基于无线频段的雷达来实现,希望先了解雷达测距的读者可以参考笔者在本书的另一篇文章——《雷达照进商业》。目前关于LoT最普及的测距方法是利用iBeacon技术(见图4)。iBeacon主要基于低功耗蓝牙技术(Bluetooth Low Energy,简称BLE)。通常只需要一个纽扣电池就可以持续工作至少一年。除了能提供低速率(10KB/s)的通信和信息传输之外,iBeacon之间还可以通过测量电磁波信号强度(Returend Signal Strength Index, 简称RSSI)来间接计算iBeacon之间的物理距离。
除了iBeacon之外,也有不少其他测距的方法,比如通过超声波、磁场变化、激光镭射,或者超宽频技术来实现物体间的定位。这些方法都是利用测量信号的飞行时间差来计算距离。这些技术有的已经非常成熟,可以投入到特定的商业应用中去,有的仍然在研发阶段,仍需时日才能大规模量产。图5列举了目前市面上可见的一些区别于iBeacon的定位方案以及测距技术。

【前言 黑科技地图:浮现中的未来星球】

技术正在经历从“计算”、“连接”再到“智慧”的进化。相对而言,以计算科技为主要表征的Information Technology是第一浪,是为IT;Internet是第二浪,喜欢大词的业者将这个阶段称之为信息革命之网络革命;现如今,Intelligent Technology这一浪已然来临,这一浪是新IT,不是IT。
连接依然是效率与红利之源,但连接不再是边际效益、外部性、增量、赋能最显著的价值源泉,即使IoT未来也是如此,传感、数据、智能才是未来。这种背景下,互联网+虽然创新务实,却可能导致战略跑偏。至于移动互联网、智能互联网等,只是插曲或新阶段到来前的短暂序曲。站在互联网中心论的角度看,中国已经迎头赶上甚至已然超越,成为挑战旧世界的那个新世界,但是站在Intelligent Technology角度看,互联网才是旧世界,中国是旧世界里的庞然大物,但旧世界与新世界的时差、代差、落差已然赫然存在。有个报告说根据发表的论文和引用数量,从近两年开始中国、华人已经处于人工智能研究的领先地位,占据半壁江山。并称连白宫报告都对此感到“eclipsed”,可是AI不是发paper,从FutureLabsFL未来实验室的AI技术地图来看,结论大为不同。不过,国家、地域、产业之争并不重要,重要的是未来星球的创新生态与技术变迁。
新世界的变化正在9个”维度”发生,可以透过9度理论(今次不展开)观察未来:能量密度、数据密度、连接密度、感知尺度、网络尺度、材料尺度、计算速度、移动速度、融合速度。9度渐进、突变甚至跃迁,正在让创新从奔腾走向沸腾,技术使得IT新物种的催生变得像代码编程一样简单和快,创新本身的特性、形态和规律也变得不同以往。而贯穿一切、赋能一切、驱动一切、智慧一切的,是Intelligence。不过,Intelligent Technology智慧科技,远不只是智能,智能也不只是人工智能,AI驱动一切但不是未来的全部。
微分一切,流化一切,重构一切,感知一切,连接一切,智能一切。此时此刻,我们的确站在一个时代和另一个时代、一个生态和另一个生态的分水岭上。像是一场复杂而又绚丽的化学反应,创新大爆炸的技术进化图景已经跃然眼前。AI 方向,开源开放、AI芯片、云端并进……令到业者不仅看到AI的引擎化,更看到AI和数据、传感一起,已然成为下一代信息基础设施的核心部分。无论舆论如何褒贬不一,泡沫论如何甚嚣尘上,新能源技术的强烈闪电已经映入每个人的瞳孔,滚滚雷声已经由远及近。能源传输走向无线,数据传输走向无线只是起点,天空互联、星际互联似乎才是短期内能看得到的网络尽头。计算、网络在基础架构中的位置甚至因此变得不再醒目。无论计算如何速度,无论网络如何泛在,智能、脑以及脑计划才是下一阶段最重要的蓝图,这里不仅指对人脑的探索,更指网脑、智脑的联结成形、日益进化和效能提升。如果说体外骨骼只是人体增强与辅助系统,柔性电子、脑电脑波、脑机接口、生物芯片、类人机器人等则开始间接直接指向人的重塑甚至重生,生命与非生命开始交融,生物与物的边界开始模糊。生物信息科技,更为强悍和迅猛,直指自然人本身,生命解码之后是生命编辑,基因测序之后最赫赫然的是internet of DNA、CRISPR等。纯粹的自然人也许会消失,人的进化和提升已经开始通过科技手段来完成,人的存在形态甚至不必只是自然人。而一个正在反向进行的过程是,Computer Vison、SLAM、AI、传感等又在将感官甚至思维赋予机器人。
这不是一场知识大爆炸,也不只是一场信息大爆炸,而是一场技术驱动的创新大爆炸,我们已经进入代际更替意义上的新一轮创新周期。不同部分并非孤立,而是紧密联结互相催化,共同催生技术、产品、企业、产业、组织、经济、社会乃至人本身的渐变创新与突变进化,催化全球范围内新IT不同于传统IT产业的产业转移和产业分工。这就是人工智能、VR-AR-MR、机器人、智能汽车、智能家居、大数据、云计算、无人机、个人飞行器、可穿戴设备、物联网、天空互联网、生物信息、金融科技、3D打印、智能制造、新能源、新材料等世界范围内二十多个智慧科技关键细分领域,黑科技频频涌现的原因。FutureLabsFL与未来智库合作,产生这二十多个关键领域技术产品的黑科技地图,为未来星球探索科技大奖的国际评审廓清视野,提供可资参照的技术图谱。探索创新科技,连接星球未来,未来星球探索科技大奖,浩瀚星河中指向未来的点点微光。

无论正在实验室里创造发明的人,还是已经写出一行行代码准备要改变世界的人,抑或是准备以创业创新颠覆既有秩序的人,更或者透过媒体舆论来阅读观察理解纷繁变化的人,每个人都是未来星球的探索者,就是《黑科技》出现在您面前的原因。
科技创新,需要业者一起探索;技术驱动的种种进化,需要集体智慧认知把握;而未来星球,需要我们共同面对。这才是真的命运共同体。
《星河流光》 序章:尘埃的回响 夜色如墨, vastness of the cosmos lay spread out before me, a canvas speckled with diamond dust. My ship, the Voyager, a speck of stardust itself, hummed a low, steady melody, the soundtrack to my solitary journey. I am Elara Vance, an independent xenobotanist, charting the forgotten corners of the galaxy, seeking not conquest, nor riches, but the silent stories whispered by alien flora. This expedition, however, felt different. A tremor, not of the ship’s engines, but of something deeper, resonated within me. It was a premonition, a subtle tug towards a destiny I couldn’t yet decipher. For cycles, I had traversed nebulae that painted the void in hues of amethyst and emerald, navigated asteroid fields that danced with chaotic grace, and cataloged life forms that defied terrestrial imagination. From the bioluminescent fungi that pulsed with a rhythm mirroring distant stars on the planet Xylos, to the sentient crystalline trees of Veridia that communicated through resonant frequencies, my work was a testament to the boundless creativity of the universe. Yet, a persistent yearning for something more, something foundational, had driven me to this uncharted sector, rumored to hold the remnants of a civilization lost to the annals of time. My current destination was a whisper on the interstellar winds, a gravitational anomaly drawing me towards a system designated simply as ‘Xylo’s Veil.’ Scans indicated a single, habitable planet, its atmospheric composition hinting at the presence of complex organic molecules. But it was the residual energy signatures that truly piqued my interest – faint, yet undeniably artificial, echoes of a power source far beyond anything known to contemporary galactic civilizations. This wasn't the residue of a lost trade route or a derelict outpost. This was something… older. Something that predated the common era of interstellar travel by millennia. The Voyager settled into orbit, its sensors drinking in the data. The planet below was a tapestry of emerald continents swathed in sapphire oceans, its surface marked by geometric patterns that spoke of deliberate design, not natural formation. Even from this distance, it was clear this world had once been shaped by intelligent hands. My heart quickened. This was it. Platforms, seemingly carved from the very bedrock, overlooked tranquil bodies of water that mirrored the alien sky. The silence here was profound, a stillness that felt less like emptiness and more like a held breath. Stepping out of the ship, I felt a subtle vibration beneath my boots, a low thrum that seemed to emanate from the planet itself. It wasn’t geological; it was a resonance, a whisper of energy. My xenobotanical scanner, usually brimming with data on microbial life and atmospheric composition, struggled to categorize the ambient energies. It detected complex waveforms, intricate energy matrices that defied current understanding. My immediate focus, as always, was on the flora. The moss beneath my feet pulsed with a faint, inner luminescence, and the towering, tree-like formations, their bark like polished obsidian, seemed to absorb and re-emit the sunlight in a slow, rhythmic cycle. I collected samples, my hands brushing against leaves that felt like cool silk and petals that unfurled with an almost conscious deliberation. These plants were not merely surviving; they were thriving, perfectly attuned to the environment. Drawn by an invisible current, I ventured towards one of the massive archways. The air within was cooler, carrying a faint, sweet fragrance. The interior of the structure was vast, its walls smooth and cool to the touch.
